Code pays du numéro de commande

Chaque MB a un "numéro d'ordre de réparation" (order number). Ce numéro contient le code pays de livraison.
Exemple pour une voiture en provenance de France : 0 0 531 12345
Le code "531" signifie que le véhicule a été livré en France

Dealer and Country Codes

This material is part of a chapter on Data Cards.
The Auftrags-Nr. / Order No. contains the dealer resp. country codes as explained in section "Data Cards" at box e.
In addition, there are many option codes that identify a country-specific version. These option codes are different from the country codes in the Order No.
E.g.,
option code 491 is US version, but the country code is 703 - 707 (-718)
option code 622 is England version, but the country code is 537
option code 629 is version for France, but the country code is 531
(not all country-version codes have been included in the option code list below)

Dealer and country codes have three digits, the first of which identifies the major region:
2, 3 Germany 4 NATO, Tourists, Diplomats 5 Europe except Germany 6 Africa 7 America 8 Asia 9 AustraliaThis digit is also listed on the Body and Paint Number Plate, see separate section below.
This list contains some Niederlassungen and country codes that were not yet in place at the time of W113 production (37).

Germany

In Germany, in the W113 years Daimler-Benz vehicles were sold through a system of company-owned "Niederlassungen" (company-owned dealerships) as well as affiliated A, B or C (privately-owned) dealerships. The largest of these privately-owned dealerships were directly reporting to the Sales Organization at Daimler-Benz in Stuttgart - as did the Niederlassungen -, and had their own codes, but the smaller dealers were reporting to the Niederlassungen and did not have their own codes.

As an example, if your data card shows that your car was sold through the dealership 223 it does not necessarily mean that it was sold directly at the Niederlassung Darmstadt. It may have been sold at one of the smaller dealerships affiliated with the Niederlassung Darmstadt, like e.g. Robert Kunzmann in the nearby city of Aschaffenburg. Therefore, in many cases the code alone gives you only the geographic region where your car was originally sold.

From 1957 to 1964, in the United States Mercedes-Benz vehicles were sold by dealers affiliated with Studebaker-Packard (Mercedes-Benz Sales Inc. was a subsidiary of Studebaker-Packard Corporation).
In 1965, Mercedes-Benz of North America, Inc. (MBNA) was incorporated (Studebaker-Packard was subsequently dissolved) and the cars were sold through dealers affiliated with MBNA. Studebaker and MBNA had their own (different) dealer codes for their networks. These dealer codes are not listed on the data card of vehicles sold in the US, but are sometimes found on other paperwork related to the vehicle. When Studebaker was dissolved, MBNA signed up 195 Studebaker dealerships (out of more than 2000) for its new dealer network.
MBNA's Warranty Department had a computer file that contained the selling dealer (by name and address) for every W113 originally sold by MBNA (i.e. as of 1965) in the US. Experience showed that many of these dealerships do not exist anymore, or have changed ownership, name, location etc. (this database had no information about the original owner).
As an interesting observation on the side, in the W113 years many Mercedes vehicles were "European delivery", i.e. their owners picked them up at the factory in Sindelfingen. In calender year 1964, European delivery peaked at 38% of all 11,296 MB vehicles sold in that year - more than 1 out of 3 vehicles! (38)
About 1999, MBNA, Inc. changed its name to MBUSA, LLC.
